It delivers lightness and power alongside a distinctive playing action from a 9ft three-piece travel rod, making it a viable replacement for your main 12ft carp rods when travelling light. It can also be used as a margin stalking rod — one or two CQ rods complement a main carp setup on a barrow-loaded weekend trip. A shorter rod is also in demand from anglers fishing abroad, and this three-piece version is well suited to use from a boat. This model carries enough power to tame fish that sulk or rush for cover. The close quarter name reflects that strength, but the rod also has a casting range that will surprise many. The butt section stores and releases energy through a taper lock joint into the mid-section, generating surprising tip speed for the short overall length. That interaction between butt and middle section overcomes many of the inherent problems associated with other travel rods. Generous guide diameters, particularly in the upper section with a size 16 tip guide, cater for dense weed venues and avoid line choke when fewer guides are fitted on a shorter rod.
