The Abu Garcia Salty Stage Concept-Free is a freestyle baitcasting reel built to cover everything from shallow marks to deep water. Its aluminium frame is designed with weight reduction in mind without sacrificing strength, with materials chosen to stand up to tough saltwater use. The drive shaft pairs a high-strength brass gear with a high-strength brass gear shaft, a setup intended for big fish and forceful winding. The F-mode brake system uses six centrifugal brakes with springs, applying braking only when needed — such as underhand pitching of jigs — so the spool falls freely without braking during the drop. A backup ratchet works alongside the one-way bearing as a safeguard under heavy load. Drag duties are handled by Abu Garcia's original carbon matrix drag washer, which gives smoother performance across a wide range and higher drag force, while a drag clicker lets you judge how fast line is being taken and stay aware of the risk of a break. The reel is supplied with a super duralumin 33mm deep spool and a replacement super duralumin 33mm shallow spool. The deep spool is machined with line-volume markers at 1/4, 1/3 and 1/2 of its winding amount to make it easy to judge how much line is left, and it holds PE1.5-200m or PE1-300m for deep applications. The spare shallow spool holds PE1-200m and suits shallow-area fishing, squid metal and all-season use. The recessed split reel foot pushes the spool downwards for a lower profile, with roughly 40mm of height from the foot for comfortable palming. Two handle options are included: a power handle with a big round EVA knob and a 60-70mm two-position handle arm for winding heavy jigs, and a crank handle with a middle round EVA knob on a 95mm, 4mm-thick aluminium arm that can be swapped in with the supplied tool for casting games. Super Free HPCR-BB bearings use a redesigned ball raceway to lower rotational resistance without weakening the bearing under load, improving low-trajectory pitching and long casts. The Salt Shield pinion bearing applies a water-repellent coating inside and out to sharply reduce the salt-related noise that affects rotation, improving feel and durability in the pinion gear area where salt crystals tend to remain on a baitcaster.
