Description

The PENN Fathom II 15XN is a two-speed lever drag conventional reel built for demanding saltwater work, and this version is configured for left-hand retrieve. The "XN" in the model name denotes an extra-narrow spool, giving the reel a compact profile that sits comfortably in the hand and suits vertical jigging and casting. The narrow spool also promotes even line lay, particularly when fishing without a level wind, and reduces the angle the line takes as it leaves the spool. The lever drag is the heart of the reel's control. It moves smoothly from free spool or a strike setting through to full drag, with enough range for micro-adjustments during a fight. The Pull-to-Turn preset knob is designed to prevent the drag setting being knocked out of position accidentally. The Quick-Shift II two-speed system lets you switch between a high-speed gear for picking up slack or working a jig quickly, and a low-speed gear for torque when lifting a heavy fish or turning its head. The frame and palm-sideplate are machined from a single block of aluminium, which removes frame flex and keeps the gears aligned under heavy load. Inside, the Dura-Drag system uses carbon fibre washers impregnated with a phenolic bonding agent to deliver consistent drag pressure without hesitation or fade. Stainless steel main and pinion gears are machine-cut for a smooth, durable feel, and the forged and machined aluminium spool is braid ready.
