The Daiwa 20 BG MQ 18000 is a large, heavy-duty spinning reel built for extreme saltwater fishing, targeting species like giant tuna, giant trevally, and other powerful pelagics. Its construction is centred on a single-piece aluminium Monocoque (MQ) unibody frame, which removes traditional sideplates and screws to create a rigid, warp-proof chassis that resists gear misalignment under heavy load. This design also allows for a larger, digitally cut Tough Digigear, paired with a 20kg ATD drag system and a 5.3:1 Power Gear ratio for winch-like cranking torque. The reel features a manual bail return, which prevents accidental closure during powerful casts, and a CNC-cut aluminium screw-in power handle with a high-grip T-shape knob. The 5.3:1 ratio is described as a "Power" ratio because it balances mechanical advantage with the large spool's circumference, recovering 125cm of line per handle turn without making the handle excessively hard to turn under load.
