The Century Fireblade GT 14ft is a shore rod built around a glass tip, developed in response to requests from existing Fireblade owners and the Century Sea Team for a version with a different level of bite sensitivity. The changes are concentrated in the upper quadrant of the rod and balanced through the rest of its deflectional curve. Like the original Fireblade, it is designed and manufactured in the UK, using proprietary carbon and glass fibre and resin composites, with ply laminates cut and positioned for accurate fibre placement. The result is a rod that loads easily while retaining clear bite detection, and it sits at the entry point to Century's sea angling range for anglers who want a top-end brand name before stepping up to specialist models. The Penn Fathom II 15 Casting Special is a shore reel aimed at anglers who want maximum casting distance without giving up the power to handle big fish and rough conditions. It uses Penn's Full Metal construction with 6.1:1 precision cut gearing and the HT100 star drag system. A factory-fitted knobby magnetic braking system provides cast control that can be matched to bait and conditions, while the live spindle free floating spool houses a pair of high-performance spool bearings. Setting a hint of end float and dialling in the magnetic braking gives long, trouble-free casting in any weather. The compact frame and forward slanted gearbox keep the reel seated low on the rod for a good grip on the spool during the cast, and the large power handle and easy-to-adjust star drag help when landing large specimens.
