The Shimano Spheros SW A 10000 PG is a saltwater spinning reel built for inshore work and occasional offshore trips. It is not a cheap substitute for a Stella or Twin Power, and for continuous extreme fishing for very large tuna, GT, grouper or sharks the higher-cost models will hold up better over time. For travelling or holidaying anglers who want their own tropical set-up, the larger sizes represent good value. The reel is practical and performs above its price point. Its aluminium HAGANE Body gives it a rigid, impact-resistant housing that resists flexing under load, while the HAGANE Gear and X-SHIP combination is enhanced with InfinityDrive to deliver strong torque and cranking power. X-Protect (IPX8) water protection helps keep water out of the important moving parts. The drag does not match the power of Shimano's more expensive reels, and there are fewer ball bearings placed around the construction. - HAGANE Gear: produced by Shimano's cold-forging technology without the need for additional machining, delivering long-lasting smoothness, strength, lightness and power at the heart of the reel; traditional die-cast, machined gears are less durable under heavy loads. - X-SHIP: a combination of features that work together for greater efficiency; positioning the pinion gear close to the centre line of the large-diameter drive gear transfers more power from the handle to the rotor, and the pinion gear is supported by two Shimano ARB roller bearings for more stability. - HAGANE Body: produced from high-rigidity aluminium or magnesium, creating stiffness and impact resistance while eliminating flexing of the body, resulting in a rock-solid housing and support for the moving internal gearing and greater efficiency throughout the reel. - X-Protect: a contact-type triple-lip structure introduced to the roller clutch, the pivotal point for water resistance; the first lip prevents water entering through the space between the rotor and the body, and special grease between the second and third lip where it contacts the rotor collar at the upper part of the roller clutch resists water entry while minimising friction resistance, achieving exceptional water resistance against crashing waves and spray without compromising silky smooth rotation. - DynaBalance: reduces wobble during the retrieve by counter-balancing the rotor to enhance sensitivity and smoothness; computer balancing redistributes rotor weight to eliminate vibrations.
