Shimano Tyrnos Lever Drag Reel

Description

The Shimano Tyrnos 16 is a heavy-duty lever drag reel built for serious boat angling, designed to handle hard-fighting pelagic predators and deep-water groundfish. Part of Shimano's Metal Series, it features a rigid, die-cast frame that keeps all internal components in precise alignment under extreme pressure. The reel pairs a 5.0:1 gear ratio with high-tensile stainless steel gears, delivering both fast line retrieval and powerful cranking torque. Four shielded A-RB (Anti-Rust Bearings) resist saltwater corrosion, while a die-cast, machined aluminum power handle with an oversized rubber grip offers control during long battles. The lightweight Duraluminum spool and fully waterproof drag matrix round out a design aimed at demanding saltwater conditions. The lever drag system allows anglers to preset their fighting drag before dropping a line, sliding between Free, Strike, and Full positions during a fight without guessing at tension. The waterproof, oversized drag uses heat-resistant carbon washers to stay smooth even during long, high-speed runs from fish like tuna. The A-RB bearings undergo a specialized heat-treatment process for superior corrosion resistance compared to standard stainless steel, with shields on both sides keeping out salt, sand, and grit.
