Description
The Shimano Baitrunner XTB Big Longcast reel is built for the dedicated carp angler who wants the winching power of a big pit casting machine alongside the convenience of a freespool system. It has been re-engineered with Shimano's higher-tier internal technologies to deliver long-distance casting performance and strong cranking power on demanding venues. Its defining feature is a specialised casting configuration: an oversized, deep aluminium AR-C spool with a proprietary angled lip that lets line slide off with minimal friction during the cast. Unlike standard freespool reels, it pairs Slow Oscillation with the Aero Wrap II line lay system to create precise, parallel coils of line down the long spool, reducing friction and helping you cast further with less effort. Internally, the X-Ship system supports the pinion gear with ball bearings at both ends, keeping the gears rigidly aligned under the pressure of pulling heavy leads or winching carp from thick weed. The gear teeth have been redesigned to minimise friction, and power transfers from the long machined aluminium handle straight to the heavy-duty rotor for strong torque and winding control. The front-mounted main drag provides smooth control when playing fish, while the classic Baitrunner freespool tension dial sits on the rear. The reel is supplied with clip-on line reducers, which snap onto the spool before loading to reduce its depth – useful if you are fishing standard UK waters and do not need the huge line capacity designed for large European inland seas. - Size: Big Baitrunner (Optimized for maximum distance) - Freespool System: Fully adjustable mechanical Baitrunner - Gearing Technology: X-Ship alignment with ultra-low friction gears - Line Lay: Slow Oscillation + Aero Wrap II - Spool Type: Cold-forged aluminium AR-C longcast design - Bearings: 4 Shielded A-RB (Anti-Rust Bearings) + 1 Roller Bearing - Accessories: Supplied with clip-on line reducers The Big version is suited to extreme distance carp angling on massive open pits, French holiday venues, or inland seas where ranges of 140+ yards are needed. Its X-Ship gearing and rigid body also make it a strong choice for heavy-duty snag fishing, providing the winching power to extract big carp from dense weed or underwater structures. It is also suited to long-range continental river angling, where a heavy-duty freespool system is needed to handle powerful currents and large wild carp or sturgeon. The Big version has a substantially larger spool diameter and body frame than the Medium version, giving superior line flow and greater casting distance. The Medium version is downsized for better balance on standard 12ft 3.25lb rods when ultimate distance is not the main goal. The 4 Shielded A-RB bearings have a protective shield over the races, making them resistant to fine sand, salt, dirt, and wear.
