Gardner Ultra Skin Hooklink is a skinned hooklink material that builds on the design of earlier soft hooklinks with improvements in feel, colour, finish, and ease of use. The material is among the softest and most supple of its type, with colours carefully refined to achieve the right hue. Its matt finish helps it blend into the aquatic environment, while the soft texture means that if a fish brushes against it while feeding on a baited spot, it feels natural and is less likely to spook wary fish. The material also sinks well, so it settles flush to the lake bed. As with most soft hooklinks, pinning the line down is often necessary because the hook bait tends to drop closer to the lead than the hooklink length. A blob of Critical Mass tungsten putty halfway along the hooklink can improve the final presentation, even with heavier materials like Ultra Skin, particularly on hard, clean spots where fish have been feeding. Ultra Skin is easy to strip and will not rupture when tightening a well-tied figure of 8 loop knot.
