The Sharnbrook Tackle SBK.TA03 Tuna and Halibut Tailer is designed to bring a boated fish under control quickly and safely. It is a practical way to hold a fish steady while you measure it for legal size, and it can help when lifting fish weighing as much as 500 pounds into the boat. On fish that are to be released, the Tailer is more effective than a lip gaff and minimises injury to the fish. The Tailer uses a wide loop of springy stainless-steel aircraft cable that slips easily over the tail of your fish. A quick upward pull closes it instantly and snugly. With the tail out of the water, the fish's movements are strictly limited, making it much easier to tag, measure and release the fish, or to lift it into the boat. The Tailer is 153cm long and built on a 32mm aluminium shaft, anodised in gold for corrosion resistance. Two soft but rugged black grips are moulded from the same non-slip material used on fine rods. The 5mm aircraft cable, sheathed in a Poly-prop tube, is also highly resistant to corrosion. The lasso, made from marine grade braided rope, is the part that closes around the tail and is pliable and fish friendly. This model is travel friendly: the business end (Bowden cable and lasso) is detachable, which makes the Tailer easy to transport by road and, more importantly, by air freight, as it can be loaded into a standard rod tube that handles up to 155cm handle length with an overall internal diameter of 6cm.
