The PENN Rival II 20 Level Wind Line Counter Left Hand is a scaled-down version of its larger counterpart, built for anglers who want a compact, precise and reliable reel for light to medium-duty saltwater and freshwater work. Its size, left-hand retrieve, line counter and level wind system combine to make it a versatile and specialised tool. The left-hand retrieve lets right-handed anglers keep their dominant hand on the rod while reeling with the other, which suits techniques needing constant rod manipulation, such as jigging, and gives a natural feel when fighting powerful fish. The integrated level wind system spools line evenly across the reel, helping prevent tangles, improving casting distance and keeping the line lay neat to reduce the risk of line-related failures under pressure. The built-in line counter shows exactly how much line is out, in feet or metres, which is useful for matching the depth of multiple lures when trolling, returning to a marked depth when bottom fishing or jigging, and placing bait at the right depth over a specific piece of structure. The reel is built on a durable yet lightweight graphite frame with matching sideplates, a construction that resists saltwater corrosion and feels comfortable in the hand. Aluminium rings reinforce the frame for added rigidity, helping maintain gear alignment and power transfer under pressure.
