Description
The Tenryu Injection SP 79 H is the heavy-class rod in the Injection range, built for launching and animating oversized topwater lures and big soft plastics. Where stepping up to heavy lures usually means more fatigue, this rod is designed to deliver power without the stiffness that makes an 80g-rated blank tiring to fish through a session. Its standout characteristic is the Smooth Action. Tenryu has engineered the blank to be progressive: powerful enough to punch a 60g surface lure into a headwind, yet soft enough in the right places to avoid the "helicopter effect." If you have ever cast a long, slender soft plastic only to have it tumble in the air and lose distance, the loading cycle of this blank keeps the lure stable and flying true. This is not simply a winch. The SP 79 H is a precision tool for technical big-lure fishing. When working surface lures such as the Patchinko 165 or Asturie 170, the rod's action stops you rushing the lure. A rod that is too stiff will rip the lure out of the water or ruin its walk-the-dog cadence; the 79 H has enough give to let the lure breathe, keeping it in the strike zone and performing its intended action even in choppy coastal conditions. - Length: 2.40m / Approx. 8' 0" - Casting Weight: 30 - 80g - Sections: 2 - Power Class: Heavy (H) - Action: Smooth / Progressive - Blank Material: High-Modulus Carbon Blend - Guides: Fuji K-Series Anti-Tangle - Target Species: Specimen Bass, Pike, Pollack, and Pelagics - Origin: Handcrafted in Japan Examples of where to use it: - Rough Ground Bass Fishing: suited to oversized surface lures when you need to get noticed in big water or high-energy surf. - Deep Water Shadding: an ideal rod for working large 18cm-25cm paddletails on 40g-60g jig heads for big Pollack and Bass over wrecks and reefs. - Large Estuaries and Tide Rips: use the rod's length and power to bully large lures through heavy currents where smaller rods would fold under the pressure. - Specimen Pike: the progressive action makes this a strong crossover rod for casting large unweighted soft plastics or big jerkbaits in freshwater. On line choice, the 30-80g rating might tempt you towards heavy, thick braid, but the rod performs best around 1.5 to 2.0 PE (25lb - 35lb). Because it manages the helicopter effect so well through its loading phase, a slightly thinner, high-quality braid will fly through the guides and add significant yardage to your cast. When working big 165mm+ surface lures, keep your rod tip slightly higher than usual — the rod's smooth recovery does the hard work, saving your wrist for the fight. Is this rod too heavy for standard 20g Bass lures? The 79 H is a specialist. While it can cast a 20g lure, it will not load properly, and it is designed to start performing at the 30g mark. If you are primarily using standard 15-25g plugs, the SP 82 MH is the better match. This H version is for the big stuff. Why does Tenryu call it a Smooth action rather than Extra Fast? In heavy lure fishing, an Extra Fast (very stiff) rod is incredibly fatiguing and often results in pulled hooks or poor lure action. Tenryu's Smooth action means the rod has a more progressive bend, which protects your knots, makes casting large lures more comfortable, and prevents the lure from tumbling in mid-air. Can I use this for light tropical fishing? Yes. The 79 H is a popular stepping-stone rod for Mediterranean or Atlantic trips. It has the backbone to handle hard-fighting Bluefish, Barracuda, and small Amberjack, provided you do not exceed the 80g casting limit. Does it handle straight-tail soft baits well? Extremely well. Long, straight-tail eels can be notoriously difficult to cast long distances without them spinning. The progressive load of this blank keeps the lure's trajectory straight, maximising your prospecting area on every cast.
