Gardner Covert Pop-Up Hook Aligners combine two key elements of rig mechanics: mounting hookbaits on a 'D' and creating an aggressive hooking action with the Hook Aligner kicker. Rigs built around these components react faster and hook more carp. The aligners can be used with almost any hook and hooklink combination, which means D-Rigs are no longer limited to stiff or coated braids — they also work with uncoated braids and even light monofilaments. Mounting the hookbait a couple of millimetres off the back of the hook shank on a free-moving hinge is central to how the rig performs. When a browsing fish inhales or mouths the hookbait, the weight of the hook forces the hook point to drop. Combined with the angle created by the Hook Aligner, the two factors work together so the hook turns aggressively and takes a firm hold in the fish's bottom lip or in the scissors. Despite the name, Covert Pop-Up Hook Aligners can be used to mount most hookbaits, including balanced hookbaits and bottom baits — they are not just for pop-ups. They are quick and easy to use, with no need to steam, shrink or shape before use. The steps are: - Mount a Large Covert Rig Ring, Flexi Hook Swivel or Hook Swivel onto the preformed 'D' and thread the Hook Aligner onto the hooklink using a baiting needle. A Braided Hair Needle makes this easiest, as it doesn't catch when pulled through the rubber compound used in their manufacture. - Position the Pop-Up Hook Aligner by pushing it up over the hook eye. - Pop-Up Hook Aligners are available in C-Thru Green, C-Thru Brown and C-Thru Black (Silt) colours, in 3 sizes.
