Description

The Tenryu Red Fight 150 Lb is a heavyweight 2-piece popping rod built for extreme big-game fishing. At 8' 4" (2.54m), it is one of the longest heavy-popping rods available, a length chosen for maximum casting distance when boat-shy tuna or Giant Trevally are feeding well beyond normal range. The blank is composed of 90% high-modulus carbon and 10% glass, a mix that balances raw lifting power with structural toughness. At 150lb class, a pure carbon rod can be too brittle for the extreme angles of a vertical fight, so the 10% glass content acts as a shock absorber, letting the rod bend into a deep parabolic arc without reaching its shatter point. The butt-joint construction keeps the main fighting section of the blank as one solid, uninterrupted length, while the overall length provides leverage to clear the boat's side during a fight. The Red Fight 150 Lb suits high-stakes, maximum-pressure situations where gear failure is not an option. It is designed for record-class Bluefin Tuna in the Mediterranean, the Bay of Biscay, or the English Channel, and for winching trophy Giant Trevally away from coral reefs in destinations such as Madagascar, Gabon, and Oman. It is also suited to heavy surface lures, throwing the largest poppers and stickbaits (100g–230g) that demand fast recovery and immense tip speed, as well as extreme pelagics including giant Yellowfin Tuna, Marlin on lures, and monster Amberjacks. - Model: Tenryu Red Fight 150 Lb - Length: 8' 4" (2.54m) - Casting Weight: 100-230g (Heavy Popping/Stickbait) - Line Class: 150lb Rated (Extreme Power) - Sections: 2-Piece (Butt Joint) - Blank Composition: 90% Carbon / 10% Glass - Guides: Fuji Titanium/SiC Heavy Duty - Origin: Hand-built in Japan - Handle: Premium High-Density EVA Offshore Grip The blank is specifically tuned to load with lures over 100g; casting a 50g stickbait will not compress the rod enough to achieve decent distance, so it is a specialist tool for the big stuff. The 10% glass content adds impact resistance — when a large fish makes a sudden lunge under the boat, pure carbon rods can explode, whereas the glass fibres cushion those shocks for greater durability in extreme big-game scenarios. The 8' 4" length provides reach and clearance, allowing you to reach distant hunts that shorter rods cannot and giving more room to manoeuvre line around outboard motors and other boat hardware during a long fight. For transport, the main blank section is approximately 7ft long, so a full-length, hard-shell "Bazuka" style travel tube is needed for air travel. The joint should always be wiped clean of salt and sand before assembly to maintain the tight Japanese tolerances.
