Description
The Westin BabyBite SR is a chunky shallow-running crankbait built to trigger aggressive reaction strikes from perch, zander, chub, and bass. Its fat, high-buoyancy body produces a tight, high-frequency swimming action with just enough erratic movement to draw wary predators out of cover. A key part of the design is its low-density ABS plastic construction. On a spin-stop retrieve, the lure hangs momentarily before slowly rising backwards out of the snag zone, keeping it in the strike window far longer than standard fast-rising hardbaits. Ultra Sonic rattle balls inside the body emit a deep acoustic throb underwater, making the BabyBite SR effective on a straight retrieve or hopped around heavy structure. - Model Type: Shallow Runner (SR) - Running Depth: 1.0 to 2.0 metres - Material: Heavy-duty, impact-resistant ABS plastic - Construction: 100% lead-free design - Hardware: 2x ultra-sharp, Japanese-style #6 carbon steel treble hooks - Aesthetics: Real 3D eyes with highly detailed, hand-painted custom finishes - Acoustics: Integrated Ultra Sonic rattle balls for maximum underwater vibration - Profile: Fat, low-density body design with a highly responsive action Where and how to use it: - Canal and river wall cranking: suited to urban canal systems and river margins, where the 1 to 2 metre running depth lets you work the lure parallel to sheet piling, stone walls, and lock gates where big perch lie in ambush. - Overhanging trees and weed fringes: ideal for casting tight against overhanging willow trees, reed lines, and shallow lily pads on stillwaters, with the high-buoyancy body bouncing off submerged branches cleanly without instantly snagging. - Light rock fishing (LRF) and estuaries: a capable micro-crank for saltwater light-tackle anglers, cast into shallow rocky gullies, harbour pools, or estuary flats for school bass and wrasse. A straight cranking retrieve will catch fish, but on hard-fished venues the spin-stop technique can be more productive. Crank the BabyBite SR down with four or five fast turns of the reel handle to reach its maximum 2 metre depth, then stop completely. The low-density ABS body halts in mid-water and begins a slow, buoyant rise. Perch often follow the lure closely, tracking the deep vibration of the Ultra Sonic rattles, and the moment it stops and starts to rise is frequently when a big predator strikes. A slightly yielding drag helps absorb these close-range hits. What is the main difference between the SR and DR versions? The Shallow Runner (SR) has a shorter, more angular diving lip designed to work the upper layers of the water column between 1 and 2 metres, making it suited to shallow flats, margins, and canals. The Deep Runner (DR) has a much longer, elongated diving vane that forces the lure down into holes and channels between 2 and 4 metres. Are the hooks strong enough to handle an accidental big pike? Yes. The lure is fitted with premium Japanese-style #6 carbon steel treble hooks. They are fine enough for instant point penetration on delicate perch bites, but have the structural strength and temper to resist straightening if a bonus double-figure pike or heavy river chub intercepts the bait. Does this lure feature a loud rattle? Yes. The internal chamber contains Ultra Sonic rattle balls. As the lure vibrates with its tight swimming action, these balls clash together to create a distinct, high-frequency acoustic clicking sound that fish can locate in murky water or low-light conditions. Is this lure lead-free? Yes. Westin manufactures the BabyBite using entirely non-toxic internal weights instead of traditional lead components.
