Description
Manufactured in Japan, this fluorocarbon mainline is built to perform across the key criteria that matter in a carp line: abrasion resistance, linear strength and knot strength. Because of the base material's high molecular density, fluorocarbon lines are extremely tough and resistant to shear (cutting) when they contact the sharp objects commonly found on the bottom of lakes, rivers and canals. That same density is what can cause issues during casting, as the line throws off larger coils than a copolymer line as it leaves the reel spool. Those coils then have to pass through the butt eye of the rod. Large diameter butt rings help minimise frapping with fluoro mainlines, as does stretching the line out straight and managing line twist by occasionally using a Spin Doctor to keep twist in check. The density also means this line sinks far faster than any other type of monofilament, which is fluorocarbon's single greatest benefit to the angler. Where you can achieve good line lay to your hookbait, a fluorocarbon mainline gives the line the best chance of sinking down and settling unobtrusively on the lake bed, where it is far less likely to be seen and less likely to be felt — a prime concern at night. Light bobbins and slack lines allow the line to do this best. For knotting fluorocarbon, a tucked Blood knot is recommended for consistency. As with any line and knot combination, test your knots thoroughly to make sure they are performing adequately. Another key benefit of fluorocarbon mainline is its lack of stretch, which really helps you feel the lead down. Staying in contact with the lead as it drops to the lake bed helps ensure the rig falls in a controlled manner with fewer tangles, and lets you tell what the rig has landed on — gravel, silt, weed and so on. Wherever you fish, that is valuable information.
